State Meeting News
Hello to all of our professional members. I wanted to say just a few words about the State Meeting and Clinic
before I give out the specific information regarding this year’s meeting.
In the past, the State Clinic was one of the only clinic opportunities available to the coaches and judges in our
state. This is no longer true, we have professional members traveling to Regional and National Congress,
both as clinicians and as participants. The attendance at the State Meeting has been in decline for the last
several years as people have taken advantage of those growing opportunities. As a clinic for our highest
level coaches and judges it may not seem like the best educational opportunity; however, let me tell you why
you should attend this year.
One of the complaints that I hear the most often in our State is that we are currently very fractured. There are
issues with expectations and communication, especially between our coaches and judges. I would like to
take this opportunity to begin the process of getting everyone on the same page before we move forward.
This is one of the primary goals of this year’s meeting. So what does that actually mean?
For Recreational and Preschool coaches and Business Owners/Managers
It means that we have Jeff Lulla coming to do 4 clinics that either have been or will be presented at National
Congress, and that for the first time in many years, we’ll have additional sessions regarding Recreational and
Preschool classes. We need your support to continue to build interest in having clinicians in these areas
attend our functions, so please consider sending some of your staff who may not travel to Regional or
National Congress.
For Optional Coaches and Judges
It also means that while we will have some sessions for the Optional level focusing on some identified
problem areas, the most important sessions for you to attend is the session assessing routines in conjunction
with the judges. We will be watching the same routines together and talking about credit, deductions and
technique. This will be a time to discuss what exactly the coaches are trying to achieve for their athletes, and
how they can help their gymnasts to progress in a direction which can be rewarded by our judges. Please
also consider attending the judges track instead of the coaches track if you feel that the clinics offered are in
areas which you or your club is already strong.
For Compulsory Coaches and Judges
Four hours of routine reviews, drills for skills, and routine evaluation on Sunday should help all of us to help
our gymnasts build strong basics.
For Meet Directors
Finally, we’ll be including several sessions in addition to our scheduling meeting. There will also be a session
for meet directors regarding Rules and Policies. There are upcoming changes that will make meet directors
personally financially responsible for sanction violations. Needless to say, we would like to prevent those
policies from effecting any of our meets in our state.
Thank you for taking the time to read this letter. I hope that you will all find a reason to attend this year’s
meeting, and to find a way to help our state move forward in the next year. The tentative schedule is on the
registration page, and I’ve offered different payment alternatives for differing levels of participation. Please
take advantage of those opportunities which best meet the needs of you and your club.
Thank you again for your time, and I hope to see you at the State Meeting!

A short introduction to Jeff Lulla from the Fun
and Fit website:
Jeff Lulla is a member of the USAG National
Safety Review Board, USA Gymnastics University
system, a National Safety Instructor for USA
Gymnastics, co-author of the USAG Kinder
Accreditation for Teachers (KAT) Course, an
industry consultant, and for years has been a
seminar presenter for the Amateur Athletic
Foundation, the US Association of Independent
Gymnastics Clubs, Gymnastics B.C. Canada, and
USA Gymnastics. He also serves on the USAG
National Preschool Advisory Panel and has
participated at the USAG Business Owners
Conference presenting table topics on technology
and marketing.
Jeff Lulla earned a B.A. degree in Physical
Education from CSUN in 1976, and has over 30
years of teaching and coaching experience. In
1985 Jeff opened the first Fun & Fit Gymnastics
Center in Burbank, California and in 1987
opened the second Fun & Fit Gymnastics facility
in Santa Clarita, California. Both Fun & Fit
Centers also contract with private schools and
their local city Park and Recreation Departments
teaching recreational gymnastics both on and off
site.
In 1991 Jeff began to license a self-esteem
building curriculum developed at Fun & Fit to
other gymnastics schools and fitness clubs. Since
then, hundreds of gymnastics and youth fitness
programs internationally have been licensed to
use what is called the "Fun & Fit Gymnastics
Program".
FYI: Regional Team fees will increase to
$100 per Optional Team and $100 per
Compulsory Team the next time they are
